The Broadblue Rapier range of performance catamarans are built with the express intention of delivering semi-custom built fast cruising catamarans with impressive passage making capability. Both the Rapier 550 and Rapier 400 have been specifically designed to be sailed singlehanded - unusual for multihulls of this size. Both yachts have ample luxurious accommodation for family cruising but the ability to sail performance catamarans of this size shorthanded means that you don't have to invite guests on board who are experienced sailors!
The Rapier catamarans achieve their high levels of dynamic sailing performance due to employing proven design philosophies allied to lightweight and very strong durable composite construction, combined with powerful advanced carbon rigs. However these are not stripped out racers - they are designed as comfortable ocean capable cruisers with extended periods onboard for families or couples in mind.
The Rapier 400 won its class first time out on the Round the Island race and although racing was not the intended application for this yacht, owners all round the world have revelled in its easily accessible performance, comfort and short-handed blue water cruising capability.
Our Rapier 550 demonstration boat is regularly singlehanded in Chichester Harbour, but is just as happy crossing the Atlantic, which it did in 2021, with a novice crew where it regularly cruised at 15 knots and proved capable of over 20 knots in complete safety. These boats offer passage making opportunities which literally broaden your horizons and offer levels of performance which are not to be confused with mass produced floating caravans which seem to proliferate in the charter market!
The Rapier 550 deck configuration was a pioneer when it was first launched and we are flattered to see how gradually this format has been adopted by some other manufacturers. Every element of these models has been thought out with fast offshore passage making in mind - but they are equally at home providing comfortable coastal cruising for owners who want the capability to travel that bit further when they have time to go sailing!
The build quality associated with Rapier models can easily be verified by visiting our Chichester base and seeing for yourself how the prototype Rapier 550 has stood the test of time, after ocean crossings and extensive year round family use. We are confident that you will be impressed by what on launch has proved to be a trailblazer in design and if you have any experience of high performance cars, the moment you sit in the Recaro seats and take hold of the Momo steering wheel - you'll feel right at home, with outside al fresco carbon tiller steering - also available for the traditionalist!
